60 Los Angeles County Deputies have been arrested this year on
alcohol related charges. Most were armed when arrested. The
deputies union insists that deputies must be allowed to carry
firearms while drinking.

"Since 2004, more than a dozen deputies have been accused of
brandishing or shooting a gun while under the influence of alcohol. "
So of the crimes actually INVOLVING the gun, in four years we've had
roughly 3 cases per year, out of 8,400 sworn deputies. What's that,
0.035%?
Oooooooooooooh- big problem.
So your premise is that deputies should be allowed to carry firearms
while drinking?
My premise is it's not enough of a problem to get all whiney about.
However, being drunk while in possession of a firearm should be treated
pretty much the same as a DUI.
Exactly. And you're always reading about an off-duty cop apprehending
a criminal,
We apparently read different sources.

so one wonders what the "solution" to this "problem" is,
Post by Klaus Schadenfreudebesides what's already being done, which is arresting and prosecuting
according to the law.
Exactly what the Los Angeles County Sheriff proposed. Prohibit cops from going
armed while drinking.
