"Since 2004, more than a dozen deputies have been accused of
brandishing or shooting a gun while under the influence of alcohol. "

So of the crimes actually INVOLVING the gun, in four years we've had
roughly 3 cases per year, out of 8,400 sworn deputies. What's that,
0.035%?

Oooooooooooooh- big problem.

Depends on the extent of that drinking. One should not be "under the
influence" while carrying a firearm, but one beer, for example, should
not be the determiner either.

The 60 arrested were probably too drunk to walk. We both know anything
less results in "professional courtesy", no report filed.

My premise is it's not enough of a problem to get all whiney about.

However, being drunk while in possession of a firearm should be treated
pretty much the same as a DUI.

Exactly. And you're always reading about an off-duty cop apprehending
a criminal, so one wonders what the "solution" to this "problem" is,
besides what's already being done, which is arresting and prosecuting
according to the law.

Exactly what the Los Angeles County Sheriff proposed. Prohibit cops from going
armed while drinking.

And? How big is the problem? Miniscule.
It's the same bunch of LA city government twits that were whining last year
that Kimber is selling the same gun to the public that LAPD buys.
