I always felt the Republican knew they never had anywhere near
enough votes to convict Clinton but just wanted to cripple his
presidency.
There's a lot of reasons, but that was not one and this is not germaine
to this newsgroup.

It is simply breathtaking to watch the glee and abandon with which
the liberal media and the Angry Left have been attempting to turn
our military victory in Iraq into a second Vietnam quagmire. Too bad
for them, it's failing.

Fortunately...it doesn't matter what you think.

There were no REAL reasons, other than a minority of asswipes thought he
didn't deserve to be president, and that somehow he'd taken through some
dishonest means. You see, what happened was, he'd proven that the thinking
that had gained momentum in the 80s that the country was decidedly
conservative, and was moving even further to the right, was a delusion based
on arrogance. Out of their bitterness, they made a lot of noise, which
representatives thought by the sheer volume of it mistook it as a majority.
So they went after him with all they had. Supported by that noisy
nincompoops armed with right-wing radio rage, representatives acted on these
misconceptions, and it began to backfire.

The topic is impeachment which makes the comments germane.
Are you saying that the Republicans were so out of touch with their
members that they did not know that not only could they not get the
2/3 vote in the senate for impeachment but they could not even get a
simple majority?
You say there were lots of reasons. If that is the case why were the
impeachment charges limited to lying about sex?
After years and millions of dollars what did Ken Starr report about
whitewater,filegate,travelgate and Vince Foster?
